 Triple Play

A Game Plan for the Mind, Body and Soul

Triple Play is a dynamic wellness program currently offered in Boys & Girls Clubs that demonstrates how eating right, keeping fit and forming positive relationships add up to a healthy lifestyle. The goal of the Triple Play program is to improve Club members’ knowledge of healthy habits; increase the number of hours per day they participate in physical activities; and strengthen their ability to interact positively with others and engage in positive relationships.

The Triple Play Parents Game Plan offers a holistic approach with three key areas of focus:

•Mind: Develops a knowledge base for young people to acquire healthy habits, such as making smart food choices, understanding appropriate portion sizes and creating fun and balanced meals.
•Body: Promotes young people becoming more physically active through fun daily fitness, including activities to get kids active and moving.
•Soul: Strengthens interpersonal skills, positive behavior and good character through social recreation programs and activities.

Triple Play Program Components
MIND: This approach incorporates healthy living and active learning in every part of the Boys & Girls Club experience, from the gym to the learning center to the arts and crafts room. The central themes of good nutrition, regular health care and improving overall well-being are emphasized. A curriculum called "Healthy Habits" guides this portion of Triple Play and was developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
BODY: This component boosts Club members' physical activities to a higher level by providing sports and fitness activities for all youth – boys and girls, those athletically gifted and those talented in other areas. Daily fitness challenges, also developed in collaboration with Health & Human Services, give youth at every age the chance to play longer and harder at a variety games.
SOUL: By participating in this comprehensive social recreation program, Club youth will be able to develop and sustain positive relationships with others, acquire a healthy self-concept and a strong belief in their own self-worth and cope well with positive and adverse situations.
